If you want to make that cash register sing and start stacking paper, you gotta roll up your sleeves and start shaking some damn trees.
Jeb Blount calls it fanatical prospecting—a no-excuses, relentless approach to getting in front of as many potential customers as humanly possible. Why? Because the OGs know that building brand awareness isn’t about waiting for people to come to you; it’s about getting out there, making noise, and letting everyone know exactly what you do and who you’re doing it for.
The more conversations you have, the clearer your vision becomes. You start to figure out what makes you different from everyone else in the game.
When you’re just starting out, all you’ve got is a hypothesis at best. (Yeah, we’re going back to elementary school science class.) You gotta test that hypothesis like your business depends on it—because it does.
Talk to People: Engage with everyone, from your grandma to the dude you met at the coffee shop.
Experiment Like a Mad Scientist: Test different messages, pitches, and approaches. See what clicks.
Analyze Your Data: Measure what’s working and what’s flopping.
Adjust and Adapt: Double down on what’s winning and scrap what’s not.
Forget the classroom; this is the real world, baby. And you’re out here learning by doing, hustling, and grinding until you figure out what works for you.
I know it’s Friday, right before Labor Day weekend, so I’ll keep it short and sweet: Keep Prospecting. Don’t wait for the business to find you; go out and grab it by the horns. If you need help, let’s find a time to chat next week.
